Project: Banshee

Trying to get back into the swing of kit building but I can’t apply too much force to my right wrist still, which limits the effectiveness of sanding. But that’s not to say that I haven’t been doing *anything*!!

Here’s what I’ve been currently working on. Afterall, Gunpla building isn’t quite as strenuous as a full on GK build…

Yup, another unicorn. Rather boring, right? Well, I kinda thought so. This little number is my intended entry into the Gunpla competition organised over at figure.fm but those of you who have been reading this blog for a while may have noticed that the title lacks a “witty” one-liner which accompanies my finished works. Instead, it’s got the “project” suffix which is used for Works in progress. Guess what? it’s a WIP!!

I wonder when it started, when I began doing little mods and differing paint schemes to try and make my kits a little different from the rest of the crowd? Ideas for the Unicorn started getting into my head after the last Gunpla competition organised by Dannychoo and HLJ. I saw quite a few standard build unicorns in that comp and grew apathetic to the standard design. So, after a bit of random surfing and finding this blog from naowks, I figured I’d try something similar!! I would mod my unicorn into the unicorn banshee!!
First thing to mess around with was the psycoframe colour. Well, that was easy enough…

The gold frame look looks pretty good even with the white armour!!!
But Banshee is more than just a colourscheme change… I need to mod the V-fin!! In light of that, I went out and bought a cheapo gundam head for some raw material. Managed to get a random 00 gundam head from Orbital comics (you guys rock!)

So by cutting various parts of the 00 gundam V-fin and adding it to the unicorn, we get…

And just to be on the safe side, I also checked to make sure that it could still go back to it’s regular mode as well!

Bit of a closeup on the new V-fin. I ended up using parts from an old cosmic region Freedom gundam (basically gundam FIX for Seed Units) as well for additional parts. I forgot how naff they were! Well, it’s going to a good cause, I think…

I’ve made a few more recent changes to the fin since the pic as well. The additional “spikes” are now all on 1 side instead of spread on either. I felt that the pic above looked more like a deer or something so pointed the additional white parts backwards.

I’ve also already started painting the outer armour in a “midnight blue” colour. Although Unicorn has been described as being a black unicorn, I don’t really see a mobile suit being jet black in UC. There’s a reason why mobile suits tend to be painted in bright colours!!
I also need to add a bit of putty to the new spikes to try and make the additions a little more seemless.
I don’t know if I’ll finish in time for the competition, I only have a few weeks left and I can’t devote much time to it these days but we’ll have to wait and see.
